US Embassy asks visa applicants to make social media accounts public
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Effective immediately, all individuals applying for F, M or J nonimmigrant visas are required to set their social media accounts to “public”.
This new requirement is outlined in a notice posted on the US Embassy in Jamaica’s website.
The US Embassy said this measure is intended to assist in the vetting process needed to verify applicants’ identities and determine their admissibility to the United States, in accordance with US law.
Over the past few years, the US has required both immigrant and nonimmigrant visa applicants to provide social media identifiers as part of their application process.
